A year of impactful research and collaboration

The Centre has had a highly productive year, continuing its focus on two core research areas: Healthy Development and Healthy Working Life. These initiatives drive positive change by informing policy and practice, with research translating into real-world solutions that improve health and wellbeing across Wales.

The Born in Wales project continues to grow its comprehensive dataset, now covering 300,000 births and adding 30,000 more annually. This year, the project’s research shed light on key issues like breastfeeding during the COVID-19 pandemic and risk factors for low birth weight.

The Centre also prioritises public involvement, empowering communities through the Patient & Public Involvement Panel, the newly launched Healthy Families Feedback Group, and the Research Explorers initiative, which amplifies young voices and ensures research remains relevant to their needs.

Our research team is advancing innovations in healthcare, including early detection of conditions like Ankylosing Spondylitis using machine learning and delivering crucial insights into the long-term impacts of COVID-19. Collaborative efforts, including CARELINK Wales, address key public health challenges, while the MAGENTA Project, funded by Wellcome, examines how temperature affects pregnancy outcomes.

The Centre continues to strengthen its position as a leader in research through strategic partnerships with organisations like ADR UK and HDR UK. These partnerships foster cutting-edge data-driven research and secure vital funding to ensure a sustainable future.
